Dana and Teddy.
I have loved animals my whole life, and I have enjoyed being creative for as long as I can remember. I finally put the two together and have been making animal-themed art ever since.
I am primarily a pastel artist who specializes in commissioned pet portraits. While I had some individualized instruction in watercolors and pastels for about a year when I first started exploring the mediums, I have been figuring things out on my own since then. About nine years ago, I left my job as an attorney to pursue art on a full-time basis. I enjoy participating in local and regional arts festivals and have created commissioned pet portraits for people around central Ohio and as far away as Texas, South Carolina and Washington, D.C.
Always interested in new mediums and new experiences, I started taking metalworking classes about seven years ago. This evolved into designing and making pet-themed sterling silver jewelry. In April 2008, several of my jewelry designs won awards at The Art Show at The Dog Show in Wichita, Kansas, including first place in the jewelry division.
I understand the bond between people and their pets, and my work celebrates the joy, love, and companionship that animals bring to our lives. My pet portraits capture that spark of personality that makes each animal an individual, which is the difference between having a picture of “a dog” or “a cat” and a picture of your dog or your cat. I know what it’s like to be absolutely over-the-moon, crazy-in-love with a pet, and I put that feeling into every portrait I paint. I believe this results in art that is deeply personal and meaningful to its owner.
The animals in my life inspire both my paintings and the jewelry I make. With my jewelry designs, I try to capture the fun and whimsical side of animals. I design and make each piece by hand, from the initial design sketch to the final polish, resulting in highly individual designs that are fun to wear, fun to give, and typically a conversation starter.
I hope you enjoy my artwork, and might even consider acquiring a piece of jewelry or having your own pet become a work of art.
